  1. I love that JR called Thornton out. That's what we need. Step up or get out, basically.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I missed this. What happened?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Let me just say how happy I am to be back in the Bay Area where we have some real talent announcing the game.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Regarding Thornton JR said:
"He can't pick his spots. For him to be known as one of the greatest players in the world from now on, he's got to bring that ... He makes a lot of money to bring that intensity. You can't rely on just his eyes and his know-how all the time."

  5. I hate hate hate hate hate the Versus announcers. They're terrible. If the NHL ever wants to get more popular in the US, they need to get a television deal with something other than a 3rd rate network.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Read the Working the Corners blog on the San Jose merc's website.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Predict the score -- I'm on record with a 3-2 Sharks win.

    ReplyDelete
  8. The VS announcers do suck ass. The NBC announcers are decent.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I also think we're looking at a 3-2 game. It isn't going to be an easy 3-2, either.

Big Joe absolutely NEEDS to come out big and lead this team. The entire top line does of course, but I'm going to go ahead and put a lot of pressure on Thornton. He needs to prove he isn't a curse.

  10. Ryan said something that I agree with, and what I think pretty much sums up why we've been losing -- the Sharks aren't consistently dictating the pattern of play. They're coming out and adjusting to the Ducks, and they're losing. When they play their hockey game, the Ducks aren't able to adjust.

The game will be decided in the first 10 minutes of play. We'll know at that point which sharks team showed up to play tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  11. 4-0 sharks.. btw Barry you write like a lawyer even on your blog.. you dork

    ReplyDelete
  12. We need to dictate the pace of play and especialy not allow them to dictate our entry on the power play.

    ReplyDelete
  13. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I actually think it's going to happen a lot faster than that. You'll know in minute one. From hit number one.

McClellan did make a going point calling out Pavelski's line - one goal in the playoffs after 70 in the regular season.

Regardless of the stats my emotions tell me Big Joe, Patty and Seto are going to have to carry the brunt of the weight with Joe having to step up more than anyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  15. ............ score one for Katie.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Our second line needs to show up too. They have one scoring line and so do we, at least only one so far. Michalek and Pavelski and Clowe need to get to the net and win the battles in the corners like they did all season long.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Kev, see my comment above.

Though the top guys have to lead it still takes all 20 guys to make it happen (yes, I know that includes a dressed backup goalie, thank you very much).

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think that for the first time in the last couple years there's finally enough leadership in the lockeroom for the sharks to win the series.

    ReplyDelete
  19. We get a goal from one of those three tonight and we win this game.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I am so excited right now. So good to see Randy and Drew again.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'd like to go on record to say that if San Jose pulls this out I'll grow a mustache. You heard it here first.

    ReplyDelete
  22. has the game started yet? Versus is showing the Chicago game right now.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Not yet. Im holding you to that Ryan.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Giants up 3-0 top 2 right now.

    ReplyDelete
  25. We're in. Big Joe right off the face-off tells Getzlaf how it is. That is exactly what we need. Now we take that all the way.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Cheap shot. What a douchebag.

    ReplyDelete
  27. This just proves that The Ducks can be forced into bad play. They get backed up a bit and they start playing badly and taking big penalties.

This will show how the PP is going to develop all night. Gonna be an exciting game.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Versus isn't broadcasting the game until the end of the Chicago game.....I'm going to murder somebody

    ReplyDelete
  29. That was a terrible forecheck. That isn't going to get us anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Once again Hiller has a lucky play. Disagree if you want, but he had very little idea where that puck was. Luck has been a very lopsided thing in this series.

    ReplyDelete
  31. That was a lucky stop. Unbelieveable.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm going to murder somebody soon.......

    ReplyDelete
  33. You can't throw elbows. All The Sharks have to do is keep pressure on and Anaheim will constantly take bad penalties. It's been proven time and time again.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Another cheap shot. We have to make them pay for those.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Giants sill up 3-0 top third now.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The execution into the zone was bad, but overall I wouldn't call it horrible. There were some chances and they put pressure when they finally gain the zone. That's a key thing.

    ReplyDelete
  37. thank god, I found it.....my girlfriend has no idea how close she was to dying.

    ReplyDelete
  38. and I get to see it on CSN instead!

    ReplyDelete
  39. As I keep saying, keep pressure on and Anaheim will play like Neanderthals and keep taking penalties.

    ReplyDelete
  40. you wouldn't kill me.. you'd have to deal with the wrath of my mom and we both know you don't want to do that..

    ReplyDelete
  41. I want to hang myself having to listen to Douchebag Hayward.

    ReplyDelete
  42. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  43. That right there is what it takes. Be ready for the rebounds in front of the net.

Second line gets called out and puts one in. Here we go, baby.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I love your little Sharks just scored dance.. so cute

    ReplyDelete
  45. They are reverting to the good old goonish Duck hockey.

    ReplyDelete
  46. She's full of it. There was no dance. There was a whole lot of screaming.

    ReplyDelete
  47. By the way... Hi, Kas.

This game is just going to get better and better. Mark my words.

    ReplyDelete
  48. they gave the extra penalty to Boyle! That's absurd!

    ReplyDelete
  49. How is San Jose a man down after all that? What a horrid call. Once again Anaheim has the advantage when it comes to this series and 'even up' calls.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Not to mention the no-calls too Ryan.

    ReplyDelete
  51. we can't keep giving away pucks!

    ReplyDelete
  52. But... but... Barry... that's Sharks Hockey! Awful.

    ReplyDelete
  53. This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.

    ReplyDelete
  54. This is absolutely going to be a battle. That goal just proves it.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Kevin, watch your language please.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hi, Chris. Welcome aboard newly 21 man.

    ReplyDelete
  57. lame is right. the worst thing is it came because of a makeup call

    ReplyDelete
  58. I dont think I should have eaten before this game.

    ReplyDelete
  59. ducks can't even sell out.....what tools

    ReplyDelete
  60. Not much of Murray or Lukowich so far.

    ReplyDelete
  61. we're actually entering the zone with some speed

    ReplyDelete
  62. That was a solid, solid shift.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Sharks are battling hard down in the Ducks zone.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I almost spit my beer all over Sarah's laptop. Thanks Barry.

    ReplyDelete
  65. for those who haven't been watching the Versus broadcasts of these games, Perry is pretty much the greatest player to ever put on skates.

    Just so you know

    ReplyDelete
  66. I need to take a walk around the block now.

    ReplyDelete
  67. That was close.

Overall I'm happy with the first 20 minutes. The intensity is there. The desperation is almost palpable. A few mistakes, but I don't expect a perfect game.

    My 'key' to period 2:
    Play it like period 3

What I mean is to come out like this is the last period of hockey that matters. Keep that desperation and intensity. Don't let Anaheim flip the switch. This is San Jose's game and they need to continue to dictate the play.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Is it just me or did the first period go by really fast?

    ReplyDelete
  69. poor timing on my post, FYI --- but I think the sharks look good. The 4 on 3 goal was unfortunate, but I don't think anyone expected a shutout.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I thought so too Katie but was thinking the wine was just kickin in.

    ReplyDelete
  71. 4 on 3 is near impossible to defend. It's a matter of odds and they weren't in San Jose's favor on that one. Shark it off, come into two with grit and keep playing Sharks hockey. That's it.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I'm waiting for the Sharks offense to come alive. I feel like we're due.....

    ReplyDelete
  73. As long as they keep up the momentum, the sharks will out skate the ducks and get them to take stupid penalties. I have noticed the Ducks start falling short when they see the sharks keep the momentum going.

    ReplyDelete
  74. That Niedermayer penalty actually bums me out. I consider him to be the classiest the Ducks have. When even those kinds of players are taking bad penalties you know San Jose is in their kitchen and spinning the dials.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Kevin, did your brother find the game?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Well, the Niedermayer's as a family at any rate.

    ReplyDelete
  77. that elbow to Chechoo was awful.

    ReplyDelete
  78. This MLB commercial is hilarious. Dustin rules.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Ducks are just showing their frustration. D-bag Hayward thinks the ducks played a Fantastic period.

    ReplyDelete
  80. is that how JR hurt his shoulder? Shooting that commercial?

    ReplyDelete
  81. He's Anaheim's announcer, IIRC.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I'd like to see the Ducks do a flying V, if only to remind everyone of why the team was created, or at least what they are most associated with in popular culture

    ReplyDelete
  83. Funny Duck fact - their first year (keep in mind they were Disney owned) they were the fightingest team in the league.

I always get a kick out of that.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Disney also told them to knock it off cuz it was bad for disneys image.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I'd say great shift. We need those consistently.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Yes they did, Kevin. Which actually makes it funnier.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Yes. And it was an awesome shift.

    ReplyDelete
  88. That was offside. yes another non-call.

    ReplyDelete
  89. What do you think of all the playing time Torrey is logging?

    ReplyDelete
  90. Nabby should have headbutted Parros in the back of the head.

    ReplyDelete
  91. He is playing very well. We need minutes from guys like him so Joe can get two shifts of rest every time he goes to the bench.

    ReplyDelete
  92. 3-0 Giants top 6. Barry is in the booth with Kruk and Kuip.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I'm really happy with how Torrey is playing considering he's been out all season. He's had some good opportunities. Bringing a ton of energy, which makes sense because he seems raring to go after watching all season. Mitchell is the kind of kid that can be relied on to bring that energy and he's doing just that.

    ReplyDelete
  94. No icing at all tonight I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I'm really not sure why that was waved off.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I'd love to see Moen get a goal.

    ReplyDelete
  97. How was that not out?

    Nabby with some huge saves.

    ReplyDelete
  98. And another no call on the interference on the dump in.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Woot! Nabby must have eaten his wheaties today!

    ReplyDelete
  100. There hasn't been a good scrum this period. Ducks have a lot of speed. Sharks are starting to look lethargic. That is not a good sign.

    ReplyDelete
  101. About time they called interference. That is a Ducks specialty.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Hiller looks like he got beat up a lot in high school

    ReplyDelete
  103. And now a word from our sponsors...

This blog 'chat' brought to you by Drinkability. It's superior.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Those giveaways have GOT to stop.

    ReplyDelete
  105. It's ok. Head up, keep playing with pressure and San Jose can get back in this. If they even think about a loss it's over.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Why exactly is San Jose dumping and not chasing?

    ReplyDelete
  107. Yup...

Absolutely no pressure. No energy. No nothing. One goal lead to another. San Jose has a nasty habit of sagging after one given up.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I also don't agree that it's over. You aren't out. Ever. Just find a way to get back in.

    ReplyDelete
  109. San Jose can NOT leave anything in the tank.

    ReplyDelete
  110. They have to get one here in the second.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Sharks need the intermission to gather themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  112. There is a massive speed differential right now. Loose puck races.

Weird, Drew just said the same thing. Heh.

    ReplyDelete
  113. and now I get to watch it on TV

    ReplyDelete
  114. Please tell me that I'm not the only one that thinks Hiller's head-on-ice trick is ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Boyle with a huge hit. Too bad its going to cost us.

    ReplyDelete
  116. This better come out in our favor. Awesome fight.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Little Joe coming up huge at the end.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Shots on goal 16 to 8......not good. They need to step it up next period.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I give that fight to Joe. And that isn't me just being a homer, I promise.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Are we going to start a man down?

    ReplyDelete
  121. I'd analyze the last period but I think it's pretty obvious what happened.

    ReplyDelete
  122. So far Ryan Whitney is the only player with a penalty. I'm watching the box.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Pavs has to get one. And they called Boyle before the period was over.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Getzlaf 2 min roughing
    Boyle 2 min boarding
    Boyle 2 min roughing
    Whitney 5 min fighting
    Pavelski 5 min fighting

San Jose will be a man down, yes.

    ReplyDelete
  125. hell.....not the way to get started in the third

    ReplyDelete
  126. Boyle got 4, Pavs got 3. Whitney got 5 and Getzlaf got 2.

    ReplyDelete
  127. How would Pavelski get 3? What are you reading?

    ReplyDelete
  128. Freaking Dodgers. I really wish SoCal along with all its sports teams would disappear off the face of the earth.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Easy, guy. My family is down there.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Including the Rams even though they no longer are in SoCal.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Well they should get ample warning time. But only your friends and family.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Its majic time. Ryan knows what I mean.

    ReplyDelete
  133. we need a big play immediately

    ReplyDelete
  134. Alright. Here it goes. Nothing that San Jose hasn't faced before.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I think it's sad that the ducks can't sell out a playoff game.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Jumbo and Marleau need to put the team on their back. The crowd is strangely absent though.....

    ReplyDelete
  137. Ducks came back from 2 down, why not us?

    ReplyDelete
  138. We should get the benefit of that. but we wont.

    ReplyDelete
